Can Plastic Surgery Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

September 8, 2011

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How to get rid of stretch marks?

Stretch marks are scars left behind when skin is overstretched. They most often occur during pregnancy, bodybuilding, extreme weight gain, occasionally puberty and are usually found on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, legs, and upper arms. Now just like any scar, they are permanent; however, their appearance (or rather lack of appearance) can be improved.

There are 2 treatments that can improve the appearance of stretch marks:

I know you are probably hoping that I will now tell you the name of some secret formula lotion that will improve the appearance of stretch marks. Well, there is a lotion that can help and it is called sun block. It is your skin’s best defense against stretch marks becoming dark in color and more visible. I have yet to be convinced by any “miracle products” that claim to get rid of stretch marks.

There is one plastic surgery that does indeed eliminate stretch marks- an Abdominopalsty. With a abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, excess skin and stretch marks from the  belly button area down to the pubic area is excised. The result is a flat and smooth abdomen. See pictures below-
