Go with gift cards. The recipient can get what they really want, and the sales are usually even more fierce after the holidays. Add a homemade card ( with photos of you all together if possible) to give it a personal touch.

Quality not quantity. If you don’t know for sure that they REALLY want and will use the gift, don’t get it. It may be on sale, but it doesn’t mean you have to buy it. Most people would prefer one really great gift then several not so great gifts.
