Plastic Surgery Consultation Questions You Should Be Asking

Plastic Surgery Consultation Questions You Should Be Asking:

You’re nervous. After months (maybe years) of thinking about it you finally made an appointment to see a plastic surgeon. You’ve been in the waiting room for a while now, filling out medical forms (scary) and forgetting all the questions you wanted to ask the surgeon. What do you do?

Relax. We’ve done the work for you. Here is a list of the most important questions you should ask at your consultation.

  1. Do you feel comfortable?

Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon for YOU. It’s normal to be a little nervous—this is surgery after all. A good practice (doctor and staff), however, will try to make you feel comfortable right from the start. If you don’t feel comfortable then this office is probably not for you.

  1. Is the surgeon Board Certified?

Select a board certified plastic surgeon. This does not automatically mean that a surgeon is good—it does mean that s/he has been through a pretty arduous vetting process and has the approval of their peers.

  1. How many procedures does the surgeon do annually?

It is important to have an experienced plastic surgeon. Practice makes perfect. If you want a rhinoplasty, do you want the surgeon who did only 20 rhinoplasties that year or 200? Think about it.

  1. Can I see before and after pictures?

Become familiar with your plastic surgeon’s body of work. A picture is worth a thousand words. What better way to judge a surgeon’s skill and expertise then to view before and after pictures of actual patients. The more the better!! And if these pics come along with real (handwritten) testimonials you know they are authentic.

  1. How much down time will there be?

Learn about your plastic surgeon’s post-op procedure. You’re busy and need to know exactly how long it will take to recover from your surgery. It would be helpful to ask to speak with actual patients to hear about their recovery experiences. This information will allow you to better plan and schedule your procedure.

  1. How much does it cost?

Be informed on the cost of your entire plastic surgery procedure. If you have picked a good surgeon odds are it will be expensive. Make sure you get an accurate quote including everything—from anesthesia to garments. Then make sure to inquire about promotions—surgeons are always running promotions. They also often have financing options available so make sure to ask about that too.

Bottom Line: Bring this article with you so you don’t forget to ask any of these questions. Good Luck!!
