American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Reports – Part 1 of 4
The 15th annual multi-specialty procedural statistics have been released by American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery! This is an awesome report which shares data and statistics on plastic surgery procedures. We went through and grabbed a bunch of key statistics found in the report which we felt were pretty interesting.
- The total number of plastic surgery procedures has increased by a whopping 197% since it first began tracking data. Almost 9.2 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2011.
- The most frequently performed surgical procedure was lipoplasty (liposuction) and the most popular nonsurgical procedure was injections of Botulinum Toxin Type A (including Botox and Dysport).
- “For fifteen years these statistics have been a large part of the Aesthetic Society’s public education mission,” said the President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Jeffrey M. Kenkel, MD. “Since 1997, the interest in and demand for cosmetic plastic surgery has risen exponentially and our comprehensive statistics continue to show that.”
That is an amazing amount of growth! Lipoplsty is still the most common procedure (Americans keep getting fatter it seems) and as anti-aging procedures become more common Botox has emerged as the most common nonsurgical solution for aging.
This official ASAPS press release is very comprehensive and covers these statistics and more. To read the full release you can click HERE. We hope you found these numbers as interesting as we did! If you need any more information or are interested in a procedure please call us at 305-861-8266.
